Today is the beginning of AAPI month, and it reminded me of how when people meet me, they are not sure where "I am from." Growing up, I was often the only South Asian person in the room and the school. When I started my career as a coach almost 10 years ago, I would be in rooms where no other person looked like me. When I would socialize with other Indian people, I would often be dismissed because I was a coach and not following a traditional career path. Over the last ten years, a lot has changed in the coaching industry. There are now more people who value coaching and definitely more South Asian and Asian coaches. There is less stigma, but the stigma is still present. Yet, I keep going. I am still working in the space to support others in being seen and heard, finding their purpose, and fulfilling their authentic dreams.
